Trying out diffrent kinds of grips how to hold the putter at ease, also works well to find your correct feel.
What I most hate if I hit the darn green first then the ball, I have developped a down stroke to the ball instead of hitting the ball from behind.
See my pictures A, if my putter is put down on the green the face looks like if it's open aha!
The rule say your eyes must be and stay behind the ball so if the blade of the putter face is seen then the putter is not correctly aligned to the ball this will increas the chance of hitting the grass.
See Picture B, now you can't see the putter club face because your eyes are behind the ball and the putter is correct aligned.
I see players doing it totally wrong because they use a too long putter or to short one.
The pro's say to watch the ball and then looks at the green even the ball is gone that's difficult in the beginning because you are used to see something. Try the drill with closing your eyes and make few putts to get used to this one.
If you are not looking the you can concentrate on your stroke only.
I also noticed that I had hold the putter the same way as my other clubs after a while I don't know why this happend but it did, so I remember to point the fingers down now to prevent that happening again.

- The small diffrent can prevent you from hitting the grass ever again.
Admin SilenT 14 Jul 2006 (4 years ago) - Just make sure you putter face is closed before you hit the ball.
